Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely used in hospitals and clinics since its development in 1980s. Compared with the X ray and CT scans, MRI has several advantages: yield different diagnostic information without exposing the body to radiation, no contrast agents required for imaging anatomical structures observation or blood flow monitoring. At present, the MRI equipment market is mainly monopolized by the US, Japan and Germany brands. The average MRI scanner costs around US$ 1 million and the construction of MRI suits may cost up to half million, which acting as the main barrier for the spread of equipment.
It’s reported that the number of MRI scanners for per million head of population used is 40 in developed countries, while in China is less than 3 at present, implying the broad market with the overall size up to US$ 20 billion.
The main function of the MRI suites is to establish magnetic shield in order to reduce the power-line inference. To obtain high quality imaging results in unshielded or poorly shielded environments is the essential basis for a cost effective and removable MRI device. Through years of research on NMR field by Maisonburg’s R & D team, the problem of power-line interference within 500Hz bandwidth has been solved.
In addition, the complexity will increase in multiple on how to significantly reduce the volume of devices while ensuring the high strength of the magnetic field. The government has explicitly listed magnetic resonance imaging equipment as one of the most important projects of high-tech technology. The production of lower cost removable MRI device is the goal of R & D as well as the future social needs. We believe that the scanners will be further popularized and gradually meet the needs of hospitals and clinics of different levels with the progress and development of technology.
